I was walking down the street and saw this beautiful feather. I stopped, took a photograph and walked on.

It made me recall when my children were small and we would go for a short walk to the park at the end of our street. We loved those walks. We would stop at least 10 times for them to show me something. Sometimes a flower growing out of the pavement or rockwall. Or a special leaf. A feather. A rock for the rock collection.

It was less than 100m and it would take nearly an hour to get there. Often we’d get to the park just in time for us to turn around to come home again. We’d empty our pockets at the end of the walk and pop the treasures into a jar reserved for our nature collection.

So I propose a challenge for you: this week, walk as if you are a 2-year old. See all the beauty around you. Photograph that puddle, droplet of water hanging off the grass, or bird wrestling worms from the ground. You’ll probably need some help so let your child stop and show you all the things we walk past when we are busy in our heads and our mobile phones are in our hands.
